Position Summary:  The student will be reading to children as well as participating in literacy programs. Furthermore, students will be expected to assist with art projects. 

Student Qualifications: 

  • Able to perform Key Job Elements
  • Must be in and stay in good academic standing for the duration of employment
  • (CGPA at or above 3.0 and 9 units or more)
  • Must be in and stay in good conduct standing.
  • Be professional in manner and dress
  • Be dependable
  • Must be eligible for Federal Work Study funds

Basic Job Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled student at The Art Institute of Atlanta
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills (i.e. teamwork, group dynamics, human relations, counseling, sensitivity to others)
  • Reading to children as well as participating in literacy programs
  • Creating and assisting with art, reading programs and workshops; assisting with craft projects
  • Help with summer reading activities for elementary and middle school age children within the children's department
  • Assist at the children's desk answering phone calls
  • Signing children up for library programs.
  • Looking up titles for patrons on the library's online catalogue
  • Directing library patrons in finding materials.
  • Sort and shelve books for each scheduled work day.
  • Must have positive work habits {i.e. arrive on time, keep schedules. and have a positive attitude.

  • Customer service experience and a pleasant demeanor.
  • Must be in and maintain excellent academic standing and attendance.
  • Ability to understand the importance of timeliness and quality of work.
  • Ability and willingness to take direction.
  • Ability to think independently and resolve problems when appropriate.

Performance Reviews & Evaluation Criteria: Students will be evaluated on a quarterly basis by the hiring manager. Managers should maintain all records for performance reviews and submit them to the students file as necessary.
